  Attic dialect ἐλάα, ἡ, olive-tree, Homerus Epicus, especially in Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey”, 11.590, al. ; ἱερὴ ἐ . 13.372, compare Pindarus Lyricus “O.” 3.13, Herodotus Historicus 8.55, Sophocles Tragicus “Oedipus Coloneus” 701 (Lyric poetry), etc.; ἡμέρη ἐλαίη Herodotus Historicus 5.82 (opposed to ἀγρία ἐ. or κότινος) φέρεσθαι ἐκτὸς τῶν ἐλαῶν to run beyond the olives, which stood at the end of the Athenian racecourse, i.e. to go too far, Aristophanes Comicus “Ranae” 995 , ubi see Scholia; of the Indian Olea cuspidata, Theophrastus Philosophus “Historia Plantarum” 4.4.11.
