ἔσω, Ion. and old Att.. form of εἴσω (< εἰς), adv., [in LXX for פְנִימָה H6441 etc. ;] 1. prop., after verbs of motion (to) within, into: Mt 26:58, Mk 14:54; c. gen., Mk 15:16. 2. As freq. in cl. (= cl. ἔνδον), after verbs of rest, within: Jo 20:26, Ac 5:23; οἱ ἔ. (opp. to οἱ ἔξω), I Co 5:12; ὁ ἔ. ἄνθρωπος, Ro 7:22, II Co 4:16, Eph 3:16.†

εἴσω,
  ἔσω, used by Epic dialect, Lyric poetry, and Trag. Poets accusative as a spondee or iambus is required; ἔσω (as ἐς for εἰς) prevailed in Ionic dialect and old Attic dialect Prose; but in other Prose and in Comedy texts εἴσω was the only form admitted, whereas ἔσωθεν with the comparative and superlative ἐσώτερος, ἐσώτατος, ἐσωτέρω, ἐσωτάτω, seem to have been the only forms in use:— adverb of εἰς, ἐς, to within, into: absolutely, μή πού τις ἐπαγγείιῃσι καὶ εἴσω lest some one may carry the news into the house, Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 4.775, compare Herodotus Historicus 1. III, al.; so εἴπατε δ᾽ εἴσω Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 3.427 ; also εἴσω δ᾽ ἀσπίδ᾽ ἔαξε he brake it through to the inside, Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 7.270; so ὀστέα δ᾽ εἴσω ἔθλασεν Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 18.96; εἴσω ἐπιγράψαι τέρενα χρόα Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 13.553; ἐσσύμενοι εἴσω Pindarus Lyricus “P.” 4.135; εἴσω κομίζου Aeschylus Tragicus “Agamemnon” 1035 ; πέπληγμαι..ἔσω prev. work 1343; εἴσω.. δεῦρ᾽ εἴσιθ᾽ Aristophanes Comicus “Plutus” 231 ; ἡγεῖσθαι εἴσω, φεύγειν εἴσω, Xenophon Historicus “Institutio Cyri (Cyropaedia)” 2.3.21, 7.5.26; παρακαλέσαι εἴσω prev. author “An.” 1.6.5.
__b when a case follows, Homerus Epicus prefers the accusative, δῦναι δόμον Ἄϊδος εἴσω Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 3.322; πέρησε δ᾽ ἄρ᾽ ὀστέον εἴσω αἰχμή 6.10, etc.; ἡγήσατο.. Ἴλιον εἴσω 1.71, etc. ; more rarely with genitive, κατελθόντ᾽ Ἄϊδος εἴσω 6.284, compare 22.425; ἐβήσετο δώματος εἴσω Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 7.135, compare 8.290 ; so in Prose and Trag., Κύκλωπος ἔσω βλεφάρων ὤσας Euripides Tragicus “Cyclops” 485 ; it generally follows its case, but precedes in Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 21.125, 24.155, Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 8.290.
