νεανίσκος, -ου, ὁ (dimin. of νεανίας), [in LXX chiefly for נַעַר ^H5288, also for בָּחוּר ^H970, etc.;] a young man, youth: Mt 19:20, 22, Mk 14:51 16:5, Lk 7:14, Ac 2:17(LXX) 23:18, 22, I Jn 2:13, 14; of an attendant (cf. Ge 14:24, al.): Ac 5:10.†

Ionic dialect νεην-, ὁ, (νεάν) youth, young man, Inscriptiones Graecae 12.374.162, al., Herodotus Historicus 4.72, 112, Plato Philosophus “Symposium” 211d, Aristoteles Philosophus “Politica” 1303b21, Anon.Hist.(“FGrH” 160) p.887 Josephus Historicus, etc. ; ν. τὸ εἶδος (nisi to be read νεανικός) Xenophon Historicus “Historia Graeca (Hellenica)” 3.3.5; in Herodotus Historicus 3.53 the same youth is called both νεηνίης and νεηνίσκος ; but in Antipho Orator 3.4.6 and 8 the same person is called ν. and μειράκιον, and the eldest son of Socrates is called νεανίσκος Xenophon Historicus “Memorabilia” 2.2.1, but μειράκιον Plato Philosophus “Apologia” 34d; ἔν τε παισὶ καὶ ν. καὶ ἐν ἀνδράσι prev. author “R.” 413e; παῖς εἴκοσι ἔτεα, νεηνίσκος εἴκοσι, νεηνίης εἴκοσι, γέρων εἴκοσι Pythagoras Philosophus cited in 3rd c.AD(?): Diogenes Laertius 8.10, compare Hippocrates Medicus “περὶ ἑβδομάδων - Die Hippokratische Schrift von der Siebenzahl” 5: more frequently than νεανίας in later Gr., Wilcken “Chr.” 30i4 (3rd-2nd c.BC), Polybius Historicus 1.36.12, NT.Matt.19.20, etc.
