In Æsch., Herod., Thuc., al., to go past or pass over, chiefly metaph., to overstep, violate, transgress (Jos 7:11, Ez 16:59, Si 40:14, al.): τ. παράδοσιν, Mt 15:2; τ. ἐντολήν, Mt 15:3; seq. ἀπό (as סוּר H5493 מִן H4480, De 17:20, al.), to turn aside, fall away (cf. π. τῆς ἀληθείας, Arist., Cael., i, 5, 2): Ac 1:25.†

  Epic dialect imperfect παρέβασκε (see. below): accusative plural present participle παρβεῶντας “Abh.Berl.Akad.” 1925(5).21 (from Cyrene) is probably from a byform Παραβάω: future -βήσομαι: perfect -βέβηκ; participle -βεβώς, Epic dialect -βεβᾰώς: perfect passive -βέβασμαι (see. below 11.1): aorist 2 παρέβην: aorist passive παρεβάθην Thucydides Historicus 4.23 :—go by the side of, and in perfect, stand beside, twice in Homerus Epicus , with dative, of one standing beside the warrior in the chariot (compare παραβάτης), Ἕκτορι παρβεβαώς Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 11.522 ; of two warriors, παρβεβαῶτε.. ἀλλήλοιιν 13.708 ; also imperfect παρέβασκε, of the combatant in the chariot, 11.104; but παρεβεβήκεέ οἱ ἡνίοχος Herodotus Historicus 7.40.
